Peek-a-Boo Letters

Prep:聽2鈥3 Minutes / Activity Time: 5鈥7 Minutes鈥

Learning to see different shapes and to understand how things are alike and different will help prepare your little one to learn the letters of the alphabet. This fun game will help her look and find the letters that have a peek-a-boo hole to look through or put her little fingers in.聽

  • Plastic letters with a hole: A, B, D, O, P, Q, R聽
  • Plastic letters without a hole: E, F, H, I, K, L, M, N, T, V, W, X, Y, Z聽
  • Bowl or bin聽

Step 1: For this activity, gather a variety of letters from the 鈥渨ith a hole鈥 list above and place in a bowl. To start you might want to only include letters with holes. To add a challenge, you might want to include some of the letters from the 鈥渨ithout a hole鈥 list. Follow your child鈥檚 lead and interest.聽聽聽聽

Step 2: Encourage your child to pick a letter from the bowl. Say the name of the letter she chose and say the sound it makes, for example:

鈥淭hat鈥檚 the letter /d/ /d/ D! Can you say /d/ /d/ D with me?鈥

Step 3:聽 Hold the letter up to your eye and say:

鈥淟ook, the letter D has a peek-a-boo hole. Peek-a-boo, I see you! Can you look through the peek-a-boo hole?鈥

Step 4: Let her choose another letter from the bowl and encourage her to show you the peek-a-boo hole.
