Door-to-Door Service to Our Hospital
We offer comprehensive neonatal and pediatric critical care transport by ground ambulance, helicopter or fixed-wing aircraft. Our fleet of three ÌÇÐÄVlog-owned ambulances provides door-to-door service for patients who come to ÌÇÐÄVlog Children’s Hospital, Delaware from referring hospitals and other facilities throughout Delaware Valley and the tri-state area (Pennsylvania, Maryland and New Jersey).
Providing a Mobile Pediatric Intensive Care Unit for Your Patient
Functioning as a mobile pediatric intensive care unit, our Transport Team is specially trained and experienced in the care of children, from birth to age 18, with acute and complex needs and can provide rapid response for medical transports at all times.
Our doctors are available for consultative care as soon as we receive a request for our services. Health care personnel from our hospital will work together with the contacting hospital or health care facility to plan the child’s care.
What Happens After Arrival at Our Hospital
Depending on the patient’s specific plan of care, the child may be admitted to the Emergency Department of ÌÇÐÄVlog Children’s Hospital, Delaware. Or, the patient may be transported directly to the most appropriate inpatient care unit (such as surgery, neurology, oncology, cardiology and rehabilitation).
Our transport patients may also be admitted to the:
- Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)
- Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
- Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) and Cardiac Stepdown Unit

From the moment you call our Transport Communication Center, our communication specialists set in motion the preparations required to best serve the child’s needs. Our advanced electronic health record (EHR) links our clinical team to the patient’s entire medical record throughout the transport.
Meet Our ÌÇÐÄVlog Kids Transport Team
Our staff is highly trained in neonatal and pediatric intensive care, emergency and transport medicine and trauma. With specialized, state-of-the-art pediatric equipment, we’re equipped to care for patients with acute or complex illnesses that may require resuscitation and more aggressive management.
Our ÌÇÐÄVlog Kids Transport Team members include:
- Pediatric Critical Care Physicians: Doctors board-certified in Pediatric Critical Care serve as Medical Command Physicians, directing your child’s care throughout the transport process
- Critical Care Nurses: Registered Nurses (RNs) with specialized training, experience and certification in pediatric advanced life support, adult life support and trauma care
- Registered Respiratory Therapists (RRTS)
- Emergency Medical Technicians
- Communication Specialists
The team members are trained in the use of specialized pediatric equipment, including multiparameter vital-sign monitors, compact infusion pumps and defibrillators/external pacemakers. Advanced procedures performed by our staff include vascular access (intravenous and intraosseous), endotracheal intubation, chest decompression and advanced airway management.
How to Prepare a Patient
We will need the following:
- Your name, facility, phone number
- Patient’s name, date of birth, weight
- Diagnosis
- Referring physician
- Brief report
Please have the following ready for the transport team:
- Copies of X-rays, MRI, CT and charts
- Signed COBRA formÌý
- Extra copy of the face sheet for the transport unit
Only a parent/guardian may sign consents. Please be sure to assist the family in arranging for their own transportation.
What to Expect During Transport
Upon arrival, our transport team will:
- Collect signed consent forms giving permission for our team to treat, transport and admit the child to the hospital.
- Evaluate the child, receive updated information about the child’s condition from local doctors and nurses, and possibly ask parents and doctors more questions about the child.
- Communicate with our medical command physician to develop the child’s plan of care during transport.
